Since 1997 Afrodesign Studios manufactures, imports, and distributes fine African arts and crafts. We partner with individual artisans, non-governmental organizations, and communities in Africa to make our approach to the business unique. We procure only the finest pieces of art, furniture, home accents, and crafts and carry out extensive research into the meaning and origins of each piece, so that our clients can fully appreciate their purchase.
Afrodesign Studios believes that cognizance of environmental issues is beneficial for our artisan-partners and clients as well as for our own business. Most of our craftspeople use Sese wood, which is a soft, renewable cultivated wood. Afrodesign Studios stresses both innovation and tradition in craft production, enabling each artist to explore modern and diverse themes even while operating in the context of their communities' histories. In addition, we encourage our artists to build on their education and further develop their skills.
Afrodesign Studios seeks to encourage profitable, ethical artisanal modes of production within Africa. We negotiate fair prices on a piece-by-piece basis with individual artisans, often advancing funds for production costs and as a result we have established a number of long-term relationships with artisans.
