A relative of the Congo drum, but in many ways its superior, the Apentema was popularized by the Ga peoples' dance of the same name that emerged around the time that Ghana successfully achieved its independence from Britain. The dance, and the drum that forms its centerpiece, is a celebration of the good things in life and the hope for a new world.
This Apentema set is made for us in the heart of the Ga region - Nungua. The head is antelopa skin, held down by braided nylon cords. The carving is all by hand, and the fluid design and rich coloration give it an air of elegance."
Each drum is carefully inspected and packed.
Size Large:24"x11", Medium 20in tall x 10inch playing surface.
Wood Single piece Tweneboa (oiled kiln dried) to prevent cracks.
Leather Dry close shaved antelopa skin. We use thicker back leathers that give a mellower sound and last better than belly-skins.
Rope Quality nylon cord to ensure durability and strength.
Anthrax The leather heads are animal skins, and many from Africa and Asia can transmit anthrax. While most producers and sellers ignore this risk, we have each of our drums tested before shipping to ensure they are anthrax free. Don’t endanger yourself and your family.
